Your writing assignments for this course requires for you to branch outside of your normal social network and explore events and cultures other than your own. Through these assignments, you will be able to examine other cultural/social/political/environmental issues that you may not have been exposed to previously. Therefore, this assignment is as much a sociological awareness paper as it is an overall sociological conceptual paper.

In this paper, you will need to a) research a current event and describe how it is socially relevant; b) critically analyze how sociological theories can be applied to this event; c) select 2-4 sociological concepts and apply them to the event; d) describe how this event has changed your social perception.

In order to receive credit for your research, you must write a short 1-2 page analysis including the previous criteria. You may not select one event of the same context; but you must complete 2 short papers. Each paper is worth 10% of your grade for the course.

* When you find an event that is sociologically relevant to the course materials, feel free to send an e-mail with the information for approval prior to writing about the event.

Total Points Earned:
Logistics and Clarity: (10 points)
Paper is typed; double-spaced; with 12 pt. font; 1 inch margins; 1-2 pages long
and turned in on time; paper has clarity; has few spelling and grammatical
errors and reads smoothly; student provides citation of the source of the
event details.

Paper discusses a social event outside the person?s
normal social network.
